Awaken Our Innate Hunger for Meaning and Purpose

Recently, while shopping, I heard Deck the Halls streaming over the retailer’s sound system. I did a double take and immediately thought “not so fast”. It’s. not. even. Thanksgiving. I refuse to rush giving thanks.

Because I am deeply grateful. For family. Friends. Clients. Team members. Speaking of which, be sure and check out
the video above, featuring Amanda, a Senior Manager at KMG. She captures beautifully what we provide every day for our clients and our employees: clarity, vision, creative thinking and a place where we can bring our full selves. Which, according to research, is good for people and for business in equal measure. But it is not always easy to show up, especially in times of uncertainty.

According to Harvard Business Review, the last 18 months have “awakened our innate hunger for meaning and purpose”. A sense of purpose fuels our team, and I have long believed in hiring for attitude as much — if not more than — any other trait. This strategy has paid off, especially in the last couple of years. The purpose and positive attitude our employees bring to the team, even amidst challenges, inspires and motivates me every day.

This holiday, I refuse to rush gratitude. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. And as you hear the holiday music and messages from the media to shop earlier than ever, (supposedly to hedge against supply chain woes), consider slowing down, giving thanks and shopping local!

Warmly,

Cabanne Howard
