Summer in the STL | August 2023

As we settle into summer, we find ourselves relishing time outdoors and soaking up all that STL has to offer. No gatekeeping here! We’ve shortlisted some of our favorites below. Which events are making your “must see before summer is out” list?

 

The Merry Wives of Windsor

📍 24 Local Parks

Tuesday, August 1st - Sunday, August 27th | 6:30 pm

The St. Louis Shakespeare Festival TourCo is presenting The Merry Wives of Windsor, which will be performed in twenty-four parks throughout the St. Louis region from August 1st to August 27th.

Directed by Suki Peters, the current artistic director of Cherokee Street Theatre, The Merry Wives of Windsor features leading ladies out-witting the men in a classic tale performed in the style of a 90s sitcom. The traveling caravan of six actors will be popping up throughout the STL area at different parks every night. In typical St. Louis fashion, every 90-minute performance will be free.

Closing Weekend Curatorial Tour - Faye HeavyShield: Confluences

📍 The Pulitzer Arts Foundation

Friday, August 4th | 6 pm – 7 pm

Join Curator Tamara Schenkenberg for a last look at The Pulitzer Art Foundation’s tour of Fayre HeavyShield’s Confluence exhibition. Participants are invited to view a selection of HeavyShield’s artwork from the 1980s to the present, including two new commissions responding to the landscapes and histories of the greater St. Louis region.

In a career that spans more than thirty years, HeavyShield has created drawings, sculptures and installations in a variety of media that draw upon her family histories, traditional Kainai stories, language and knowledge, as well as childhood experiences in the residential school system.

The Boulevard Farmer’s Market

📍 The Boulevard | Richmond Heights

Sundays in August from 9 am – 1 pm

St. Louis has become known for its abundance of farmers markets featuring local produce, food vendors and craftsmen. The Boulevard Farmers’ Market has quickly become one of the region's favorite markets and is the only Sunday farmer’s market in the ‘Lou. Conveniently located just across the street from The Galleria in Brentwood, this market is a summer essential for all of us at Team KMG.

Movies on the Plaza – Top Gun: Maverick

📍 Maryland Plaza | Central West End

Wednesday, August 23rd | Trivia & Prizes at 7:30 pm, Movie Screening at 8:30 pm

Experience STL’s most stunning outdoor cinema experience for a free, outdoor screening of "Top Gun: Maverick" at the Maryland Plaza fountain! This thrilling ride of high-speed aerial dogfights pays tribute to the original while keeping fans of the original film and newcomers alike on the edge of their seats as Maverick takes to the skies once again.

This event is free and open to the public! Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, friends & family and join us for a movie by the fountain-glow!

Moonlight Ramble

📍 The Grove + Around Town

Saturday, August 26th | 7 pm – 1 am

The most unique cycling tradition in the ‘Lou returns on Saturday, August 26th. Join fellow riders for the Moonlight Ramble, a nighttime leisurely bike ride through the closed streets of St. Louis under the moon-lit sky. The 59th annual event will feature a street festival chock-full of entertainment, food, and drinks before the ride begins at 10 pm!
