Now Trending: Jumping On Trends That Align With Results

Digital marketing - social media especially - is overflowing with trends. Whether it’s a popular song you’ve heard a million times showing up in reels or a pop culture meme flooding your feed (we’re looking at you, Ken & Barbie), you’ll start to see them over and over in your feed.

Trends are beary popular! Jumping on trending news stories or memes might lead to a post going viral, but this doesn't necessarily result in gaining new followers or (more importantly) establishing meaningful connections with your customers.

Jumping on a popular trend might lead to a video or post going viral, but this doesn't necessarily result in gaining new followers or (more importantly) establishing meaningful connections with your customers.

While trends are fun and entertaining, be sure to ask: is it beneficial to building your brand?

Chasing the tail of social media trends is often meaningless momentum. Trends can have a place in your marketing strategy if they are relevant to your brand and have a purpose. However, your core focus should be understanding what your customers and potential clients truly care about, and serving their needs.

What trends have worked for your business? What about the trend worked for your brand? Do you want to evoke humor? Knowledge of pop culture? Connect with a specific generation of consumers? Capture more eyeballs because the topic is trending, even if it’s non-relevant? These are all very natural reasons to jump on the trend bandwagon. It’s just important to know WHY you are highlighting it on your channels.

Don’t let your marketing strategy fall prey to trends without teeth (bear teeth, that is). 🐻 Create long-term success with your brand by diversifying your online presence. Our team at KMG is always collaborating and educating ourselves on the newest smart trends and platforms to ensure our clients stay focused on their business goals.
