Finding Community at City Foundry STL

Between innovative co-working concepts like Cortex, to the Grand Center Arts District that includes the Contemporary Art Museum, Pulitzer Arts Foundation, Fox Theatre, multiple universities and more, Midtown has become the creative and cultural heart of the St. Louis region.

The Realities of Small Minority-Owned Businesses

Even with St. Louisans recognizing and ready to support local creative endeavors, there are still so many barriers to entry as a small startup, especially for BIPOC and women-owned businesses. The magic happens when someone is willing to come in beside them and fill the gaps, which is what we’re loving to see unfold right now at City Foundry STL.

A Solution That’s Working!

From countless new locally-owned restaurants in their Food Hall, to well-loved organizations like The Women’s Creative launching their first store, Procure, and vendor markets specifically created to serve minority business owners, City Foundry has become THE PLACE to be for these small businesses and the community. By partnering on leasing options, providing built-in foot traffic (with the Food Hall and other attractions), and a free parking garage, many of the hurdles small businesses face have been alleviated and they’re just getting started!

Managing Director, Will Smith says the area “was developed to create a space for local and emerging talent – whether it be culinary, retail or entertainment concepts, the space is intended to elevate the people behind the brands.” and adds “We are thankful that the community has backed our vision and mission to help amplify local talent, many of which are small, minority-owned businesses. We are proud of what City Foundry has done to provide a place where our homegrown talent can thrive, and look forward to welcoming even more BIPOC-owned and women-owned retail merchants.”

The Who’s Who

Among the businesses mentioned, are also local fan favorites like May’s Place (who we now lovingly work out of the former space of!), Golden Gems, Sojourn by Joya, Pure Vibes, Mix + Match, Polished Prints, Boheme Boutique, and Profield Reserve. These businesses have chosen to come together in City Foundry STL’s safe and welcoming community for all. What they are building there is strong! Add City Foundry STL to your list next time you’re out shopping or need a bite to eat. They’re right off HWY 40 and next to IKEA so it doesn’t get much more convenient than that!
